MC 13: GEORGE HUMPHREY COLLECTION, 1924-1970, bulk: 1950-1965
Scope and Contents
Photographs collected or taken by George Humphrey while a member of the viola section (1934-1975); Humphrey was one of the official photographers of the BSO. The bulk of the photographs are portraits of orchestra members, as well as formal and informal BSO group shots, and various BSO conductors although predominantly of Charles Munch.
In addition, there are a number of Tanglewood scenes, portraits of guest artists, and photographs of subjects particularly close to Humphrey including his photograph exhibit at Tanglewood, chamber music with the Harvard Music Association, and Iceland. Featured predominantly with the Harvard Music Association are BSO members Carl Zeise and Rolland Tapley.
Photographs are black and white, 1 color. There are several negatives and contact sheets.
