TMC 61: Audiovisual collection
Scope and Contents
Reel-to-reel audio tapes (7" and 14"); audiotape cassettes; and video cassettes of performances recorded live at Tanglewood. Represented in the collection are orchestra and chamber music concerts, vocal recitals, Phyllis Curtin Seminar recitals, choral and Youth concerts, and piano and instrumental recitals. Also includes events, such as Festival of Contemporary Music, Tanglewood-on-Parade; Fromm Festival; symposia, such as "the Future of Music in America (1961); and composers' forums|Significant productions include commissioned works by the Music Center, for example, "Elephant Steps" conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas in 1968 (music by Stanely Silverman)|Many guest artists performed and/or taught master classes (e.g. Isaac Stern). Video cassettes begin in 1976; reel-to-reel tapes in 1961; and cassette tapes in 1972.
Gaps exists in earlier years: no recordings exist for years 1962, 1964, 1968 and 1970. Also, there are few tapes for the years 1961-67 and 1971-74.
